I did a glass gilt sign a while back for Sibella Court from The Society Inc. It was cool to see it’s been included in her new book ‘Bowerbird’ which can be found here: http://www.thesocietyinc.com.au/store/catalog/product/view/id/537/s/pre-order-bowerbird/category/36/
I was looking through some old photos and came across this snowboard I painted for an exhibition called ‘Sidewayz’…. I think it was in 07 or 08… The background was done in gold leaf, and then layered with glazing techniques and the detailed elements painted on top.
It’s nice that people are starting to put more time and effort into their shop front signage. Realising that a hand painted sign can make a huge difference to the appearance of their store. After all a business with no sign is a sign of no business. So I was stoked when the guys down at Atlas Kiosk in Hall St Bondi asked me to do some gold leaf signage for them. Hand painted in reverse with 23krt gold leaf and enamels.
I finished some Gold Leaf signage for a new bar in the city called ‘The Morrison’ a few weeks back. Was super hard to get decent flicks of these due to all the reflections, and having the air-conditioning going full blast while trying to lay the gold leaf on the glass was interesting to say the least. Pretty happy with how they came out in the end though. Also worked on a large metal sign for them with over 200 sheets of 16krt Lemon Gold Leaf used in the background, which left me with a damn sore back. The sign was then aged used various glazing techniques and then the design was painted on top. Big thanks to Nath for his help on this one…. I know he loves working on Sundays just as much as I do.
I was a commissioned to do this piece for an Investment company’s front office.
